It can be hard to pull away and find a moment to reset yourself when you’re working in a busy customer service job. Here are a few ideas to fit some micro-self care in during your day. Please note, YOU are ultimately aware of what’s appropriate at your workplace. Be sure you don’t violate any policies or put yourself or anyone else in dangerous situations. Find self-care tips that are appropriate for you and your job:
- Close your eyes and breathe
This is a great micro reset. Give yourself the grace of a moment to shut out the world and give yourself some much-needed oxygen. It doesn’t have to be long, but it can help. If you’re able to, try to get three nice long breaths in before getting back to the world. Try one of these 30-second breathing exercises > - Move around
Some of us get stuck standing at register or in one spot for long periods of time. Get that body moving a little. Maybe it’s just a quick deep-knee bend and twisting at the hips. You know what you need! Get some “deskercise” inspo > - Pack healthy food
Some customer service days can be exhausting as sporting events. Your brain and body may be pushed to the limit. Be sure you are setting yourself up for success by packing nutritious options. Also, don’t skimp on staying hydrated! - Get some fresh air
Have a break coming up? Try to pop out for a quick bit of fresh air. Maybe you’ll luck out with a quick hit of Vitamin D from the sun, too! - Ask for help
Be sure to take advantage of help that’s available at your workplace when you need it. - Find YOUR thing
I worked at an office where we all made a truce NOT to talk about work in the break room. Instead, we collaborated on the daily New York Times crossword. It gave us a lot to talk about (that wasn’t work related) and hopefully we helped our brains as well.
I know these aren’t mind-blowing suggestions. Sometimes we just need to pick something that will be our reset in a crazy day. Remember, you’re amazing and what you’re doing takes a lot of yourself. Give yourself the grace of a quick reset in your busy day.
